Roc Pool Service fixes that. We aggregate data from every major source — Google, Yelp, and the BBB — and run every company through the same transparent algorithm. The Roc Score (0–100) is a composite that accounts for rating quality, review count, recency, accreditation, and how well each business covers the Rochester suburbs where pool ownership is highest. I'm a web developer based in Rochester, NY. I started building local business directories in 2023 after noticing how difficult it is for homeowners to compare service providers in categories where trust really matters — pool service, chimney sweeps, auto body repair. These are high-cost, high-trust decisions where a bad choice costs hundreds or thousands of dollars and wastes a full season.

How we make money (honest answer)
Currently: nothing. Roc Pool Service is a free directory with no monetization.
When this directory generates enough traffic to be worth monetizing, I plan to explore three options — all disclosed upfront:
- Sponsored listings— clearly labeled as “Sponsored”, appearing above the ranked results, never changing a company's Roc Score.
- Lead-gen referrals — verified after-the-fact, disclosed on the page where they appear, never conditional on a positive review.
- Affiliate partnerships — with industry vendors (pool equipment, chemicals, supplies), disclosed inline.
One thing that will never happen: a business paying to improve its Roc Score. The formula is public and mechanical — there is no “bump” for sale.
Business listing corrections and takedown policy
Corrections: If your business is listed with incorrect information (wrong phone, address, or hours), email connormeador@gmail.com with the correction and a link to a public source (Google Business Profile, BBB listing, etc.). I typically respond within 48 hours.
Removal: If you want your business removed from the directory, email me with your business name, location, and reason. I will remove the listing within 5 business days. No questions, no hoops. All data comes from public sources — I do not publish private information.
Response time: 48 hours or less for corrections; 5 business days or less for removal requests.

Data sources and methodology
Each business profile aggregates data from multiple public sources:
- Google Business Profiles — star rating, review count, and date of most recent review. Refreshed weekly.
- Yelp — star rating, review count. Refreshed weekly via the Yelp Fusion API.
- Better Business Bureau (BBB) — letter grade and accreditation status from public BBB records.
- OpenStreetMap — geocoordinates for mapping, under ODbL 1.0 license.
- Business websites and Google profiles — contact information, founded year, and service offerings where publicly listed.
We do not republish full review text from Google or Yelp — their terms of service prohibit that. Short attribution snippets (≤120 characters) with a direct link to the review source are shown where available, following fair-use principles.
